A decorative technique where embroidery floss is wrapped around a bead until it is completely covered, creating a smooth, three-dimensional berry or fruit that is then sewn onto the fabric.
Fruit Stitch (Wrapped Bead)
The Wrapped Bead, sometimes called a Fruit Stitch in some embroidery patterns, is a simple decorative technique used to create smooth, three-dimensional berries and other small embellishments. Instead of stitching directly onto the fabric, embroidery floss is wrapped around a bead until it is completely covered. The finished bead is then sewn onto your embroidery project.
This technique adds beautiful texture and dimension, making it perfect for berries, cherries, holly, mistletoe, flower buds, ornaments, and other raised details. While it isn't a traditional embroidery stitch, it's an easy way to create realistic accents that stand out from the fabric.
Keep your thread snug and evenly spaced as you wrap the bead, rotating it slightly after each pass to cover the entire surface. Once the bead is fully covered, secure it firmly to your fabric with a few small stitches.
